Why True Listening Feels Hard — and How to Train Your Brain to Do It
Move past autopilot conversations and learn how to listen with more presence, confidence, and clarity.
If you’ve ever walked away from a conversation thinking, “Why didn’t that go deeper?” or “Why didn’t I know what to say?” — you’re not alone.
In this free, single-video training, Dr. Jackie Perry explains why listening is harder than we expect and how to work with your brain + nervous system instead of against them.
What You’ll Learn
In this short training, you’ll learn:
Why listening feels difficult — the neurological and psychological reasons your brain pulls you out of presence
The most common listening roadblocks — including distracting thoughts, rehearsing responses, and rushing to advice
How automatic listening patterns take over — especially when emotions rise
One simple, science-based override strategy to interrupt autopilot and stay present
How to approach conversations with more confidence, even when things feel hard or emotional
Why This Matters
- Many people assume good listening is something you either have or you don’t.
- But listening is not a personality trait — it’s a learnable skill, grounded in how the brain, body, and nervous system work together.
- When you understand why listening breaks down, shame loosens its grip — and real change becomes possible.
What You’ll Walk Away With
Most people never learn what’s actually happening inside them while they listen — why attention drifts, why they rush to fix, or why conversations stay shallow.
After this training, you’ll walk away with:
-
Clarity about what’s happening in your brain and nervous system when listening feels hard
-
Awareness of your own habits that quietly block deeper connection
-
A practical tool you can use immediately to stay engaged and grounded
-
Increased confidence that listening is a skill you can grow, not a flaw you need to overcome
-
A renewed sense of hope for deeper, more meaningful relationships at home, at work, and in your community
This isn’t about saying the perfect thing.
It’s about showing up differently.
